PATTERN TEMPLATE TIP

Hi blog buddies!
Wow, it was so nice to sign in and see responses to my last post about losing some followers and apparent changes that require you to have a Google account to use the friend connect follower widget/gadget/thingy which have caused many bloggers to loose followers.  I had no idea.   Thank you for sharing friends! ♥♥♥

The pattern template tip is something I have seen on facebook and pinterest, so I'm sure many of you who use patterns may already be aware of it.  I usually use plain copy paper for my pattern templates and trace with a pencil or pen, but recently I started using a water soluble marker to trace the template onto fabric, which works great, however the ink from the pen soon ruins the edges of the paper pattern.

I've been making hearts with flowers on them for a while and with Valentine's Day this weekend, started making some new flower hearts.  I decided to use my heart pattern to test out making a template out of plastic cutting mats from the Dollar Tree.

There are two mats in a pkg and each mat is 11" x 14".  I used a sharpie to trace the paper pattern onto the plastic mat and then cut it out on the inside of the line (so the pattern wasn't enlarged by cutting on the outside of the sharpie line) with a pair of sharp scissors but not my fabric scissors as the plastic is quite thick.

I like how the template turned out and would recommend if you have some paper patterns that you would like to save, head to a Dollar General store and pick up some cutting mats to make templates.

Here are a few of the shabby flowers I made to sew on the hearts:

Thanks for stopping by blog buddies!
